A Fresh Start by Susan Davis
Do you know a child who is ready for a fresh adventure? Or one who is still trying to get past the (lock)down time during the pandemic, and may need some encouragement and fresh experiences? Come check out what’s happening at the Herrick Library! The 6-and-under crowd and their grown-ups can sing, dance, play, and make music in the Briercrest Park with the Songbirds Music Family Class. Call or come into the Library for more information.
Inside the Library our Children’s Section is bursting with new books, DVDs, and fun activities. We have a child-sized craft table for large-scale drawing and coloring, and we have interactive, hands-on activities to experience, play, and learn.
Frequently we showcase a topic from our Children’s books and DVDs, such as feelings – what they are and how to deal with them. Come take a look at books with titles like The Color Monster: a story about emotions by Anna Llenas, Everyone Feels Angry Sometimes by Dr. Daniela Owen, Listening with My Heart: a story of kindness and self-compassion by Gabi Garcia, and A Feel Better Book for Little Worriers by Holly Brochman. Take time to sit and read with your child. These books can help our little ones understand what’s going on inside their head and heart and (sometimes) tummy.
In future months the Children’s Section will feature topics like exercising for good health and staying healthy during flu and cold season. Wander through the Library to view the art exhibit by a local artist. There are many anatomical models on display for your use. Examine them with your child and learn together what our brain or our heart or our skeleton looks like. There’s always something new to see and something for everyone at the Library. Hope to see you soon!
