Health Rocks! Garden

By December 15, 2020Library News, Library Programs

Our Health Rocks! garden debuted in early November 2020 and is based on the nationwide phenomenon of the Kindness Rocks project. The rock garden is a community space where you can stop by and be inspired at the artistic creations and even take one home with you. Or you can create a painted rock to leave in our rock garden to brighten someone else’s day. It’s an easy way to put a smile on someone’s face!

We hope to gather positive and encouraging messages for those going through their health and wellness journeys, as well as thank our local healthcare heroes who work nearby. Whether you’d like to support someone or are going through your own journey, it’s a reminder that we are not alone.

Throughout the year we’ll have themed rocks for various health observances, such as Breast Cancer Awareness in October or Love Your Heart in February, and we’ll need your help to fill up the garden with pink-ribboned rocks or bright red hearts during those months!

The Library provides free rock painting kits which include: a rock, acrylic paints, a paintbrush, Mod Podge and a Sharpie. Just contact the library to pick yours up (currently Curbside pickup).

Completed rocks can be placed directly in the garden at 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa (near the flagpole) throughout the year. We’d love to see your artistic creations or the rock you chose from the garden on social media with the hashtag #herrickhealthlibrary.
